We have now developed an online version of Chartagon Competition! There are no discovery cards, storms, water ways, etc, which are included in the board game, so this is a pure strategy game, like chess or go. It is free to play, so give it a try!
You can either practice the basics by playing agains a (rather simple) computer algorithm, or play with someone else on you local device, or challange your friends and other players using email correspondence (if you include several email addresses separated by comma and no space, you can play as a team). The game runs in your browser using webGL, so it will work best on a computer. Mobile devices can be rather slow, and may have compatibility problems, but some devices work ok.
You can try the online version here: https://chartagon.com/online
You can find the rules here: https://chartagon.com/?page_id=18156
When playing using email we need to store the email adress and a player name for identification. The email and other player information is stored in a MySql database hosted by Simply.com, together with the game data. You can also add a team name and nationality, but this is optional. The data in or database will only be used to notify the players when it is their turn, if there is very important information we need to share (happens very seldom: there is no weekly newsletter), and to give access to links to change username and nationality. No player information will be transferred to anyone else.
The database also keep track of players’ wins and losses and calculates how prominent each player is. This value ranges between 0 and 1000, and can be used to rank players. The value is not Elo or Glicko-2, and is based on the number of wins (weighted by the difference in ranking) and number of games played, in comparison to all other players. Loosing or a draw will not change your rank, to encourage games between players of both high and low prominence (i.e. there is no such thing as protecting your rank by avoiding games). As in science, both commitment and genious is highly valued. All games are stored in the database, so we can update the prominance and ratings retroactively.
